Alcove and Computer Tables
The media center at Assumption High School has 28 computers and a SMARTboard in a separate alcove of the library. Teachers may reserve this area for half of a block using the reservation form on the sharepoint help desk. To optimize access to media center resources, teachers may not reserve an entire block.
In addition, the media center has 24 computers for seniors during their study hall.
Printing & Scanning
The media center has two copy machines, which also serve as printers and scanners. Students may scan in color, however, we do not have color printing available. Students should only print school-related materials. Students will need to enter their 7 digit ID number in order to print. Items will not print automatically, as students need to select the print job, enter the ID number, and select print. Students will be limited to 50 copies per school year, with the exception of seniors who will be given 75 copies per school year. All other printing must take place off campus. There is no limit to scanning documents.
Online Resources & Destiny Quest
Teachers and students have access to the following online subscriptions and databases: ABDO Digital Books (non-fiction ebooks), Bloom's Literature Online, Catalist Digital (digital audiobooks), Courier Journal Online, Discovery Education Videos (video streaming), FollettShelf (digital audiobooks and fiction ebooks), Gale Opposing ViewPoints in Context, Gale Student Resources In Context, Gale Virtual Reference Library (reference ebooks), Naviance Career Database, New York Times Online, Vocational Biographies Database and World Almanac Online. Teachers and students may access our subscriptions either through our online subscriptions page under Student Resources or by using the OneSearch feature in our Destiny Online Card Catalog.
In addition to searching our print and online resources, students can view the top ten circulating books and a short list of our newest additions to the collection. Teachers and students can also use their AHS username and password to log into Destiny Quest and rate and review books they have read.
Items Available for Check Out
Teachers and students use our Destiny Card Catalog to search over 9,000 print resources. Students and teachers can access reference books, non-fiction books, fiction books, biographies, magazines, newspapers, and audiovisual materials in the media center. We have several special collections including: The Assumption Heritage Collection, The Kentucky Heritage Collection, and The Professional Collection.
In addition to print resources, students can check out flip cameras and tripods for school projects, as well as loaner Tablet PCs (should they forget theirs at home) and Tablet PC internal batteries. Students working in the media center may also check out card readers or power cords to charge their Tablet PC. However, the card readers and power cables should not leave the media center.
Finally, students may also check out markers, colored pencils, scissors, white out, and glue for projects.
Students, faculty, and staff may use their IDs to check out up to ten items at a time.
All materials checked out of the media center must be returned or paid for before final exams are taken. Students are responsible for reimbursing the media center for any lost items.
If an item is currently checked out, students may place a hold on it. The item will not be renewed for any other student once a hold is placed on it. Students will be notified via email when their hold is ready for check out. Students will be given 3 school days to pick up the item before it is shelved or given to the next person on the hold list.
Students may NOT renew the following items under any circumstances:
Students may only renew the following items IN PERSON:
Book drops are located in the media center and cafeteria.
The media center staff will email students who have overdue materials on Tuesday mornings, but it is the responsibility of the student to know when books are due. Neglecting to check your email will not be an acceptable excuse for not turning in overdue materials. With the second and third overdue notices, students need to return overdue materials by the date indicated on the notice or a detention will be issued. After the fourth reminder for the same item(s), the student’s name will be given to the dean of students and media center privileges will be suspended. Demerits may be issued by the dean of students.
